Julie Griffin of the Friends of Griffin's Tavern and the Friends of Fishkill Depot will talk about these significant archaeological sites, their importance to the mid-Hudson during the Revolution, and the continuing efforts to protect them from destruction.  Griffin's Tavern in East Fishkill was the rendezvous for patriots such as Washington, LaFayette and Von Steuben, near the main supply depot for the Continental Army. The Tavern's remaining site is unprotected, but much is known about it.  The Supply Depot's surviving area, which includes barracks foundations and documented gravesites, is the subject of an ongoing preservation effort. This important post for the Army is threatened with development, despite overwhelming evidence of its archaeological resources and importance to our understanding of the war for Independence and of America's first Veterans.
