Join Dr. Charles Holmes, Ph.D., for a brief tour of some of these strange objects, including: black holes, pulsars, quasars, the big bang, the cosmic microwave background and the recently-observed gravitational waves.

What are these?
How were they discovered, or what is the evidence that they exist?
Where are they?
What ties these objects together? Gravity.

Dr. Holmes will answer these questions and tell the story of gravity from Isaac Newton to Einstein, forward to the headlining LIGO observatories that twice detected colliding black holes last year.
For eleven years until his retirement in 2008, Dr. Holmes worked at NASA HQ providing oversight and program guidance to NASA۪s Heliophysics Great Observatory, a suite of operating science missions observing the sun, the interplanetary solar wind and their interactions with the Earth and planets. In 2008, Dr. Holmes received NASA۪s Exceptional Service Medal.
